Cadent apologizes after ‘error’ temporary lights lead to traffic chaos in Dudley

A gas company has issued an apology after temporary traffic lights placed in the wrong place caused traffic chaos in Dudley.

Motorists said they were stuck in traffic jams that snaked their way from Gospel End Road to Wombourne on Wednesday evening (February 9).

The traffic management devices had been installed by Cadent workers who were carrying out essential gas line upgrades in the Sedgley area.

A spokesman for Cadent Gas Network said: “It was our mistake, absolutely. Our crews are upgrading gas lines in the area, replacing old metal lines with new plastic ones – and our traffic management n just wasn’t set up as it should be.

“We are truly sorry to everyone affected by this error.”

Councilor Karen Shakespeare, Cabinet Member for Public Realm at Dudley Council, said: ‘We have been made aware of the significant traffic delays around Gospel End in Sedgley and have been in contact with Cadent, who carry out authorized critical work on gas lines in the area.

“A set of temporary traffic lights, which violated permit conditions, have been removed. People should expect delays due to ongoing works, but the traffic flow has now improved a lot.
